I recently found out from my sister that my mother has already put up her Christmas tree and Christmas decorations. In my native country, the Philippines, the first of September is the kick off of a different season. Here in the US, the day after Thanksgiving, is the “official” beginning of the Christmas season. I know a lot of you out there who are not familiar with Philippine holidays and traditions might be thinking that starting the Christmas season this early is just plain nuts. That is what my husband thought too until I started explaining it to him.
In the Philippines, during Christmas, we look forward to things like caroling, cooking and celebrating with family, friends and, last but definitely not least, the birth of our Lord and Savior. I have been telling my hubby that I have missed Christmas with my family ever since I got here to the US. I begged him to come over there to celebrate the Christmas season with me just about every year since I got here and this year we are finally going to do it.
